All about the Amboseli Wildlife Photography Workshop.

Overview

As with our very popular Masai Mara Wildlife Photography Workshop, this new Wild Eye workshop signals a return to a focused and inspirational wildlife photography experience with one goal in mind – to make you a better wildlife photographer.

Wild Eye safaris are already at the forefront of wildlife photographic travel and in-the-field education and this workshop is the first in a range of new courses and workshops which will, once again, change the way you see your own wildlife photography.

Through a combination of dedicated wildlife photography presentations, a workshop manual, small group of photographers and the perfectly located Ol Tukai lodge in the heart of Amboseli, you can be assured of a photography workshop that will leave you not only inspired but filled with new knowledge, ideas and the desire to better your craft. And all of this in Kenya’s Amboseli National Park, one of Africa’s most photogenic wildlife destinations.

Join Wild Eye for the ultimate Amboseli wildlife photography workshop.

  1. Day 1 Arrival

Arrival in Nairobi.  After checking in at our rooms we will meet for a presentation on Amboseli and it’s elephants, what you can expect from the the workshop experience and to answer any questions you might have.  After dinner we will spend the night at the Weston Hotel.

  2. Day 2 Amboseli

After breakfast we will transfer to Wilson Airport, about 5 minutes away, and board our flight to Amboseli.  Upon arrival our Wild Eye guides will meet us at the airstrip and transfer us to the Ol Tukai.  After settling in to our rooms we will enjoy lunch overlooking the incredible landscapes that Amboseli is so well known for and then head out on our first afternoon drive to explore swamps which is home to the largest herds of free roaming elephants in the world.   Once we return back to the lodge, Gerry will present “Photographing Elephants”  in the conference room after which we will enjoy dinner.

  3. Day 3 Amboseli

A 05:30 wake up call will start the day and after a cup of coffee and light snack we will head out on game drive.  On most days we will take our breakfast with us in order to maximize our time out in the field and get to the diverse landscapes that Amboseli has to offer.  After returning to the lodge and freshening up, Gerry will present “Telling the Story of a Place” in the conference room.  After lunch there will be some time to relax or do more Lightroom work in the conference room before heading out on our afternoon game drive.  Upon returning from drive there will be time to download your images or chill around the campfire before dinner.

  4. Day 4 Amboseli

The schedule for today will be the same as yesterday.  The presentation for today will be “Deconstructing Elephants”.

  5. Day 5 Amboseli

The schedule for today will be the same as yesterday.  The presentation for today will be “Creative Exposure Compensation” and there will again be ample time to practice and ask questions as you work through your images from the trip so far.

  6. Day 6 Amboseli

This morning will start a little earlier than usual as we head out to the dry lakebed of Amboseli.  The photographic potential on the like is out of this world and we will spend most of the morning looking for subjects to photograph on this lunar landscape.   Upon returning to the lodge and freshening up, Gerry will present ”Processing Your Elephant Images”.  After lunch we will do more Lightroom and then head out on another afternoon game drive.  Upon returning from camp there will again be time to download your images or chill around the campfire before dinner.

  7. Day 7 Amboseli

The schedule for today will be the same as Day 5.  The presentation for today will be “Creating an Elephant Portfolio” and there will again be ample time to practice and ask questions as you work through your images from the trip so far.  When we return from our afternoon game drive we will meet in the conference room to download the last images from the trip and then present our portfolios from the trip.  We will enjoy our last dinner at Ol Tukai as we look back on an amazing few days in one of Kenya’s most beautiful parks.

  8. Day 8 Departure

A 05:30 wake up call will again start the day and after a cup of coffee and light snack we will head out on our last game drive.  We will return to the lodge around 11:00 from where you will have time to download and backup your images, pack and freshen up.  After lunch we will make our way back to the airstrip for our flight back to Wilson airport from where we will transfer to JKIA for onward flights back home.
