All about the Green Season Mana & Luangwa Safari.

Overview

Mana Pools & South Luangwa are two of Africa’s most iconic wilderness parks and almost always visited during the height of the dry season. Although that certainly is a fantastic time to visit and experience these two wildlife havens, they have a special season that few have heard of. Those who have visited during the green or “emerald season” will tell you that little can compare to the scenic beauty on display as early summer sets in. Our hopes are that the first rains have fallen in both Mana & Luangwa allowing for the first green summer flush to set in. It creates a unique photographic experience & is visually spectacular. Many of the first baby antelopes will have been born by this time and the summer resident birds are in full show. It’s a lively time to be on safari in these two locations and this experience simply won’t disappoint. There’s even a chance of seeing the famous elephants of Mfuwe as they access the Wild Mango on the lawn via the front reception entrance. It’s a special tour no doubt and will add a colourful diversity to your travel portfolio & gallery.

  8. Day 8 Safari

These will be full days of safari in South Luangwa National Park. Days will follow a similar routine to our experience in Mana Pools with morning and afternoon safari activities being the order of the day. Our focus in South Luangwa will initially be the predators, especially leopards. This region of the park is known for an incredibly dense leopard & lion population, and there’s a large pack of wild dogs that roam the area. You can’t help but gawk at the beauty of this park & we’ll enjoy plenty photo opportunities of scenic landscapes filled with herds of impala, zebra, kudu, buffalo & more. Elephant sightings are also common and the river is filled with hippo & crocodile. During the scenic green season there’s never a dull moment when on safari.

Mfuwe lodge is also home to an annual spectacle that’s gone viral on social platforms around the world. From late October through to middle of December a few elephant herds will walk on to the lawn of the camp in search of the wild mango fruits produced by a massive Wild Mango tree, right next to the main lodge reception. In fact, the herds will often walk right through the camp’s reception making for a fantastic sight & a great safari memory. If luck is on our side we might just get to see this first hand on this exciting tour.
