Arrival in Nairobi. After checking in at our rooms we will meet for a presentation on the Mara, what you can expect from the the workshop experience and to answer any questions you might have. After dinner we will spend the night at the Weston Hotel.
Wild Eye Mara Camp
After breakfast we will transfer to Wilson Airport, about 5 minutes away, and board our flight to the Mara. Upon arrival our Wild Eye guides will meet us at the Serena airstrip and transfer us to the Wild Eye Mara Camp. After meeting the amazing camp staff and settling in to our tents we will enjoy lunch on the banks of the Mara River and then head out on our first afternoon drive to explore the Mara and kick of our wildlife photography workshop. Once we return back to camp Gerry will present “Wildlife Photography – Define Your Own Approach” in the media tent after which we will enjoy dinner on the banks of the Mara River.
A 05:30 wake up call will start the day and after a cup of coffee and light snack we will head out on game drive. On most days we will take our breakfast with us in order to maximize our time out in the field. After returning to camp and freshening up Gerry will present “Managing Your Lightroom Catalog” in the media tent. After lunch there will be some time to relax or do more Lightroom work before heading out on our afternoon game drive. Upon returning from camp there will be time to download your images or chill around the campfire before dinner.
Choosing Your Shots

The schedule for today will be the same as yesterday. Today Gerry will do two presentations, one before and one after lunch. The first is “What Makes a Good Wildlife Portrait?” and the second “Telling the Story of the Place”. After the last presentation we will head out on game drive and specifically look for the types of images discussed in the last two presentations. Upon returning from camp there will be time to download your images or chill around the campfire before dinner.
The schedule for today will be the same as day 5. The presentation for today will be “Photographing Animal Interaction“.
Compiling Wildlife Photography Portfolio
The schedule for today will be the same as yesterday but there will be two presentations. The first, which will be presented before lunch will be “Panning, Motion Blur and ICM”. In the evening, just before dinner, Gerry will present “Compiling a Wildlife Photography Portfolio”.
Hot Air Balloon
A 04:30 wake up call and quick cup of coffee will start the day before we head to the balloon launching site. There will be time for a second cup of coffee as we watch the balloons getting prepared and then, just before the sun rises we will take off for and drift over the Mara River and the open grasslands of the Mara. Photographing the Mara from the sky will present a wonderful opportunity of using wide angle lenses to tell the story of the scale of the Mara and telephoto lenses will make for some unusual angles and images of the mammals and birds we might fly over. After touching down we will enjoy a breakfast on the open plains, and we will then meet our guides and continue on our morning game drive. With no presentations planned for today we will use the time to look for whatever species we might still want to photograph or images we still want to create. There will also be time to relax at camp or do some work on your images in Lightroom. In the afternoon we will head out on our afternoon game drive and upon returning from camp there will again be time to download your images or chill around the campfire before dinner.
A 05:30 wake up call will again start the day and after a cup of coffee and light snack we will head out on our last game drive. We will return to camp around 12:00 from where you will have time to download and backup your images, pack and freshen up. After lunch we will make our way back to the airstrip for our flight back to Wilson airport from where we will transfer to JKIA for onward flights back home.
